A remote-work month in the Colonial Zone

May 2026 · 2 min read

Why a month here works

Short trips visit places; long stays join them. The Pallazzo allows stays of 28 days or more, and the Colonial Zone is unusually good at absorbing a temporary resident: it is compact, walkable, sociable, and cheap to live well in once you shop and eat the way the neighborhood does. Within a week the comedor knows your order and the fruit man knows your face.

The desk situation, honestly

The house has wifi, an ethernet connection for the days a call cannot drop, and a dedicated workspace. Three separate bedrooms mean a couple can hold simultaneous meetings behind two closed doors — the underrated luxury of remote work. And the covered gallery is the standing-desk you did not know you needed: shade, breeze, and the courtyard green below.

The honest part: the district's power grid has shortages, and the house's backup batteries carry lights, fans, and phone charging for up to 8 hours — but not air conditioning, and your laptop's battery is your own. Plan the way residents do: keep devices charged, know your deadline days, and treat the occasional outage as the city's way of ordering you to the plaza.

The month's rhythm

  • Mornings — the Malecón for a run or walk before eight, coffee after, work until the heat peaks.
  • Middays — la bandera at a comedor; the working lunch here costs less than a delivery app at home.
  • Late afternoons — the second work block, with the sea light moving across the terrace.
  • Evenings — the plazas, the promenade, the slow dinner. Weekends: Boca Chica, Los Tres Ojos, or the coach to the north coast.

What a month costs in energy

Less than you think. No commute, groceries two streets away, sixty restaurants in walking distance, laundry solvable, and a host who answers within the hour when anything needs fixing. The long stay is the version of this house that makes the least sense to leave.
